Portakabin Building 001Portakabin Inside 002

After a couple of weeks of long hours and little sleep we have reopened in our lovely Portakabin building on the upper terrace.

We are now sited next to St John’s church on the Lothian Road side and easily visible from the street. The building that Portakabin UK kindly donated to us is big enough to fit all our stock and is warm and welcoming.

We are very happy in our new home and we hope that you will love it as much as we do.

We finally have a (weather permitting) date for the delivery of our Portakabin! We are planning to open in our new temporary home on 18th January, and will be closed until then to carry out the move.

If you wish to place any orders for collection on or after the 18th please email us on edinburgh@cornerstonebooks.org.uk or phone us on 0131 229 3776 and leave a message.

Portakabin UK have generously given us the use of one of their Portakabins for the duration of St. John’s redevelopment project.

We are sorry for any inconvenience that our temporary closure causes you, and look forward to welcoming you to our new home.

Harris and Tweed Harris and Tweed 1

In the absence of having a shop dog, we do welcome visits from our canine friends – especially if they are dry and well behaved!  These lovely Wheaten Scotties came to see us yesterday and made quite an impression.

We seem to have come to the end of the lovely weather, and it’s a dreich afternoon in Edinburgh. However we’ve had some lovely customers to lighten the day, including one who brought us a present…

Tea & Chocolate

Some chocolate and a cup of tea to help with the Friday afternoon paperwork? Thank you very much!

Cornerstone Panorama

We posted a circular version of this photo on Facebook yesterday but thought this panorama of the shop was too good not to share here too!  If you haven’t visited us before it gives you a good idea of how we fit all the books, cards and gifts under our lovely vaulted ceiling.

Local Resident on bench

As I was sweeping up the leaves outside the shop this morning I encountered one of our friendly local visitors. He wasn’t coming too close, but he definitely wanted to know if I was planning on feeding him! It was a lovely start to the morning and a great reminder that, although we are so close to the centre of the city, Cornerstone is still, as more than one customer has described it to us, a ‘haven of peace’.

Skyline of Edinburgh from St John's

When we were looking for a header picture for our new website I came across this one and thought it was worth sharing. Edinburgh Castle, but not from the usual angle.
