We are excited to be moving back down to the Lower Terrace at St. John’s as the first part of their re-development is complete. We are now closed for two weeks to make the move and will re-open on Thursday July 20th at 10 a.m. We are looking forward to welcoming you all to our new home!

Portakabin Building 001Portakabin Inside 002

After a couple of weeks of long hours and little sleep we have reopened in our lovely Portakabin building on the upper terrace.

We are now sited next to St John’s church on the Lothian Road side and easily visible from the street. The building that Portakabin UK kindly donated to us is big enough to fit all our stock and is warm and welcoming.

We are very happy in our new home and we hope that you will love it as much as we do.

We finally have a (weather permitting) date for the delivery of our Portakabin! We are planning to open in our new temporary home on 18th January, and will be closed until then to carry out the move.

If you wish to place any orders for collection on or after the 18th please email us on edinburgh@cornerstonebooks.org.uk or phone us on 0131 229 3776 and leave a message.

Portakabin UK have generously given us the use of one of their Portakabins for the duration of St. John’s redevelopment project.

We are sorry for any inconvenience that our temporary closure causes you, and look forward to welcoming you to our new home.

During the church re-development project our Temporary Home will be a custom-built Portakabin on the Upper Terrace at St. John’s.  It is likely we will be moving in January 2016.

Till then, we look forward to serving all our customers from our current premises.

There are some gorgeous new children’s books that would make great Christmas presents this year.

Two in particular:Snow

‘Snow’        by Walter de la Mare           £6.99

“No breath of wind,

No gleam of sun –

Still the white snow

Whirls softly down –

As the day draws to a close, a family prepares for Christmas. Outside, the world slowly turns to white… This enchanting edition of de la Mare’s glorious celebration of the wonder of snow is beautifully illustrated by Carolina Rabei. One of the most outstanding picture books to be published this year, it will surely become a classic.

Mimi and the Mountain Dragon

‘Mimi and the Mountain Dragon’       by Michael Morpurgo         £5.99

Michael Morpurgo is a master story teller and this is evident in his latest Christmas tale.  “In her castle lair, high in the mountains of Switzerland, lives a terrible dragon.  In the village below, lives a brave little girl called Mimi.  When Mimi finds a baby dragon in the woodshed one snowy Christmas morning, she makes a decision that will bring joy and peace to the village forever.” A heart-warming Christmas adventure that all the family can share, it perfectly combines magic, adventure and Christmas cheer and would make an ideal stocking-filler.

Of course there are lots more we would love to show you when you come into Cornerstone…

It’s a dreich November afternoon here in Edinburgh, but the shop is bright and welcoming despite the weather. Our advent candles, both numbered ones and the boxed sets for Advent wreaths, are proving as popular as ever this month. We also have a wide selection of (chocolate free!) Advent Calendars. It’s well worth popping in for a browse…

'Surprised by Scripture' by Tom Wright

‘Surprised by Scripture’

by Tom Wright                                   9780281069859                   £12.99

Tom Wright’s latest book has been selling well since it was published a couple of months back.  ‘Surprised by Scripture’ is a collection of his essays, sermons and talks that provides case studies to explore how we can read the Bible and engage with it to discuss some of the important issues that affect all of us today. In raising the topics of faith and politics, the Bible and evolution, climate change and many others, Wright provides an opportunity for all of us to reflect on how our faith can and should impact on the way we live our lives and the choices we make.

In the absence of having a shop dog, we do welcome visits from our canine friends – especially if they are dry and well behaved!  These lovely Wheaten Scotties came to see us yesterday and made quite an impression.
